Need help with firewalls

I like to download stuff from P2P networks. I don't use Windows firewall, I use Zone Alarm free edition. This morning I was going to go browsing on my P2P network but it says I am firewalled and will return no search results. I turned Zone Alarm off and re-opened the P2P program but it still says it's firewalled?? How do I figure out what other firewall is causing the problem? I don't know of any other firewall that I have so I'm confused.

I have a cable modem and I also use Vonage - could it be something there? If so, how can I configure the modem/router?

have you looked in your task manager so you can see more of whats happening with your computer. it may give you more info.

 

Thanks - I will have to think about that. I really like Zone Alarm so I don't know if I want to uninstall it. But I may uninstall it to try the others out and if I don't like them, just reinstall Zone Alarm.

 

A modem/router is supposed to provide you with a good hardware based Firewall. Maybe you can turn off ZA while you are on P2P, then turn it on after. No responsibility for this suggestion, though. Bazza

 

Well, I finally got around to uninstalling Zone Alarm and trying the free version of Comodo. It looks as though it has more options to customize different aspects, which I like. I haven't sat down and allowed an exception for my p2p program yet - I'll do that today and cross my fingers, lol.

I was using the Zone Alarm & Avast combo for protection. When I'm using Comodo, do I need to run it with Avast? Or does Comodo give me firewall and antivirus/spyware/malware protection all in one?
