All I really want is to be able to sort my itunes library by the folder the music originates from. I do not want to go through and edit information in each individual file, I will be spending days doing that.

Let's say I have a folder, "Music A" and I want it to go into a folder, "Folder A" on my iPod. Unfortunately, all the music from "Music A" on my itunes is smashed into the itunes library along with all the music from Music B, C, D, E, F, G, and H, and this is not a very well designed program. Jobs is overpaying his programmers, or not paying them enough, either way, iTunes really does suck.

I'm really not sure what you want to do since you talk about 'where the music originated from' and "Folder A", but...

Have you tried making a "Smart Playlist"? You can create rules to do so by every category they have.

Maybe if you are more specific on how you're trying to break it up...

My music is already arranged on my hard drive into folders. I want these folders to transfer as-is to my ipod. In the itunes program, however, it dumps all my files from each folder into 1 library without any regard for how they were separated beforehand.

it is like taking 10 separate file folders from a cabinet, dumping them into a trashbag, shaking it up, then dumping it into a filebox for me to read through. I just want to transfer the folder straight to the ipod without itunes messing everything up.

well as LauraR mentioned, you could create custom playlist, and call them as say folder A, then dump the songs from each folder into each specific playlist

so 10 songs from folder A into playlist folder A, and 20 songs from folder B into playlist folder B... Itunes won't, at least i don't think it will, create separate playlist folder or separate locations for you based on where the music comes from

Thinking that's how you'll have to try and do it. I was looking around and I am not seeing a way to do what you are wanting to do through itunes. Maybe someone else will know a way. Sorry.
