Need HELP with networking

does anybody know i can find a STEP BY STEP guide for setting up a LAN connection with internet sharing between to XPs?
I'v tried everything, they look connected but they don't see each other in "my network places", and don't share the internet.
please help

 

What kind of router do you have and have you installed the router software in your main computer....

 

Did you also go through the setup network wizard for both computers located in control panel.......
