    Hello,

I brought a new sata hard drive the other day and i found the sata/raid drivers on the cd that came with the motherboard. I put them onto a floppy disk so that when i reformatted i could install them but it just doesn't want to get detected. The drivers don't want to install either so i don't know what to do.

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition,

Motherboard - Gigabyte Ga-8ipe1000PRO-G S478 865PE ATX Sound GIG LAN Firewire USB 2.0

    The hard drive is a Maxtor 6L200M0 Diamond Max 10 200GB 7200RPM SATA/150 8MB Cache

If you have any ideas on what to do or try please post them as anything my be helpful.

    Thanks,

    DamaGe

Have you enabled SATA in Bios?
Sure ya got the correct SATA drivers? on your floppy should be 5 files, I think.
During Windows set up Are you are pressing F6 Key when asked? at bottom of screen for third party drivers ( something like that)
Boot order CD First, then SATA, then Floppy.
What BIOS version are you running?
Check your SATA & Power Cable's
Last Question for now, Is there any other HDD connected? particularly IDE type

I'm almost positive that i do.

The drivers that I came with my brand new motherboard and i've checked the internet and found nothing new. I am not quite sure on what drivers i need and all this stuff.

I have tried putting the drivers that came on the cd onto a floppy and doing it that way but it just says windows can't find the right files.

I just recently updated my bios to the latest version hopeing it was that.

Yea i've checked them and it all seems to be in order.

I do have my other IDE hardrive conected which has windows and everything i have right now on it. Would this have something to do with it? Can you only have either an IDE or a SATA?

Thanks for the reply i can try someof these ideas again just to make sure everything is correct.

How do you know that the drive is not being detected? Because it doesn't appear in My Computer?

    Try this:

Right-click my computer and select 'Manage'. Under Storage, click 'Disk Management'

Tell us what's listed there. It sounds to me as if you simply don't have the volume partitioned, and added to your system. If you see any unpartitioned space, format it, and assign it a drive letter, by selecting the appropriate options with the context menu.

Under disk management all there is in the white box is Volume C which is my IDE and in the grey bit underneath my DVD ROM drive an C drive.

    A couple of things.
I suspect you dont have the correct files/drivers on floppy, er even Bios setting
Ya might try a different floppy disc or re copy to a different disc.

I have the same MOBO and a Maxtor Diamondmax 9 SATA on one of my systems.
I can Look and see what files/drivers I used, I'll post em.
If you want I probably can E-Mail em to ya, PM me with your E-Mail address.

Another thing, you can run Maxtors utility if you bought retail it should have come with Maxblast 4 CD or you can download for free from Maxtor web.
The utility can be use for diagnostics or setup/format etc. run the utility if it cant see your drive either the drive is bad or connected wrong or Bios configured wrong.

Last thought If you have other HDD's connected to your system disconnect them until you have installed windows on your new SATA HDD
You can run both SATA & IDE some system have trouble Loading Windows to an SATA when a IDE is connected

I'll check what my Bios setting are & get back to ya, Hopefully tomorrow but might not be till Wed evening

Ok, I've run that program from maxtor and not even that can detect the hard drive. Do youthink its a dead drive? I might just return it and get a new one.

If your sure SATA HDD is connected correctly & Bios is configured properly I'd say it's Dead, RMA time.

I thought I read somewhere that some of those Maxtors had botched firmware??
You also Know you only connect one power cable to your drive, Maxtor sata's have both molex & the newer sata power plug, if both are used at the same time it can damage your drive.

Here's my bios settings (I told ya I have the same MOBO and a Maxtor Diamondmax 9)
    Boot order
    1st CD
    2nd Hard Disk
    3rd Floppy

On Chip SATA, set to "Manual"
SATA , set to "Port 0"

No other bios settings directly apply to sata configuration
(After windows is loaded I set Hard Disk as first boot, That way she Boot's a hair quicker)
I use the top sata port on my MOBO (Port 0)

Let me know how things work out, I'll be around
