    Hello:

I'm replacing my pentium 1.6 ghz with pentium 3.2 ghz; I have a 478 socket.
I basically removed my old chip and carefully replaced it with a new one. I believe I previously ran the system bus at 400 mhz. The new chip indicates the system bus is capable of running at 800 mhz.

So I turn my computer on after installing new chip and it appears to come on, except it really doesn't. The fans are running and I can see the lights lighting up but don't hear that great first beep. As if the POST does not reach the CPU. I can't coldstart it by pressing the power button. I must pull the power cord in order for it to turn off.

Do I have to adjust any jumpers on the motherboard for this? I don't really see anything on the BIOS (Award) for me to adjust.

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

you need to post the system specs/ also check with the mother board manufacturer and see if the chip you have is supported an older mobo may not support the higher clocked chips or prescott core chips.
