Need help with slow start up

    Hi
    Since running the Read and Run Me troubleshooter in Malware (no malware detected), my PC has been very slow to start up. It takes 1 minute from power on to get to the Windows screen and 5 minutes to fully load up ready to log on to MG's :(
    Can anyone help me?

    WinXP SP2 Desktop

    Grumbles! What did you do to your machine???j/k
    Have you un-installed the dl'd malware detection proggies?...and ran CCleaner and its registry tool?

    Yes! I only run AVG free, A-Squared Malware + Zonealarm Firewall :)
    Run CCleaner every 3 days including registry analysis ;)

    How do you know what are safe to remove and not using the CPL? Is is mainly trial and error?

    I have d/l to desktop and taken out programs as suggested by members

    I also see two programs that might fight for control AVG 7 and BOClean. This can really slow a computer down.
    I know one is called anti-virus and anti-spyware (AVG) and the other is called anti-malware (BOClean) but nowadays spyware and malware might refer to the same thing.
    One of those two should not be running at startup. Turn one off and use it only to scan when you call it up.

    I am not sure who to go with here. I took out HP and Quicktime and the start up is 25% quicker already :)
