A shrine will be erected in honor of whoever solves this, to be worshipped thrice daily LOL

Firstly, I’m not exactly a newbie to resolving issues involving video creation software, have been making vids for two and a half years.
I wouldn’t say I’m a pro, just want you to be aware that I will have some idea of what you’re talking about, should you decide to help me out ;)

ISSUE: NO VIDEO IN TIMELINE - NO CODECS HAVE HELPED!

I ran into this issue when my PC got a virus and I had to wipe it and start over from scratch.
After days of reinstallations and correcting issues that I had resolved years ago, Sony Vegas Movie Studio decided to vie for its place as the most obstinate of all my programs.

The problem is of the standard variety. I have audio in my timeline but no video and receive the warning:
“Video: Stream attributes could not be determined”.

So, naturally, I figured it was a codec issue. Right. I’ve spent the past two days scouring the internet and reading a never ending assortment of advice on how to correct the issue. I have downloaded a metric butt-ton of codecs (I think according to GSpot v2.70a there are 297 installed). It was flagging me earlier that an AC3 filter was missing but the message went away – I have read that that is a common issue with GSpot.

Now for the stuff that might help some sweet, wonderful, kind-hearted genius assist me :confused

(see? A metric butt-ton! Let me know if I need to start deleting these but they were mostly downloaded in my pursuit of a solution)

I have always used torrents from isohunt without issue, so this is either something I have corrected previously or people are suddenly capturing files with an incompatible program.

By the time this issue is resolved I will probably lose the inspiration for making the video I was planning...and it was gonna be good, too. *sigh* This is the first time I have been unable to correct an issue by finding it explained to someone else on a messageboard and following the instructions provided.

And now, I leave it up to you computer pros. I am at your mercy here and getting really, really frustrated. :cry

Hey badgirl, this is deffo not my strongest area to help with, but i can make a few sugg's...

First off too many codecs is very BAD! it is never gonna work unless you remove them! i would wipe and start again.

    Get SP3 for it.

Have you installed DivX and all of it's codecs?

One last thing, you mentioned that it is not connected to the net, but you say it got a virus, how?

How are you getting the files onto it that you DL from torrents [which im going to assume are legal] ot to the 'puter?

    Q
