    Howdy.

I bought the following PC from Overclockers a while ago:

Today I have reformatted XP meaning the drivers got wiped, ofcourse. I located the motherboard model and downloaded the Ethernet drivers etc. I also downloaded the Sound drivers for the motherboard.

However, windows is still not allowing me to play Sound and is saying in Hardware Manager that "PCI Device" and "Unknown Device" aren't installed yet. DXDiag shows that there isn't a sound card installed.

Do you have any ideas of where I could get the sound drivers I need?

I have no idea whether my soundcard is onboard or not which make sit hard for me to find the drivers I need.

I'm downloading the drivers you linked and will see if they solve anything.

OK, are the sound jacks attached to the motherboard, or do you have a card which you insert into a slot on the motherboard?

I have no idea what a soundcard looks like unfortunatly.

    I tried the installations.

The first installation (10mb ish one) wouldn't run.

The second one (40mb or so), ran for a while. Windows detected a Sound card on a high definition or something, and then failed to install and the installation failed with an error.

Also, Device Manager shows "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" under the "Other Devices" section with a yellow exclamation mark on. Before the installation attempt, this was "PCI Device"

OK, what you want to do is uninstall that "defective" hardware from your system, and reboot. When you boot back up, Windows will pick up on the fact that there is no driver, and will ask you to install automatically or specify a file. Select specify a location, and try the driver that almost worked. Other question is are you fully updated with Microsoft with SP3?
