    Greetings,
I have been referred here from the malware forum. I have complete all of the read me and run steps, have had my logs reviewed and determined that no malware exists. Good thing ! Bad thing is I am still have issues as follows.
The machine will only operate in safe mode. Under normal boot, everything locks up and goes into some sort of suspended mode. When this happens, the only way to get of out is to remove the power.
The machine is a Toshiba Satellite with Vista home edition. One other issue I have is that I do NOT have a Vista disk to attempt a reinstall if needed. I do have a friend that has a Vista Premium disk. Not sure if that one will work with the code on the bottom of the my laptop. One post I read said that the disk would give options on which version to install and my code would tell it to install the version that came with the machine.
Sorry foe the long first post - I would rather try to fix the problem than do a reinstall, but I underhand that could be necessary
    I await your instructions.
    Regards,
    Bill

    Greetings, Bill44.

The fact that your machine starts in Safe Mode but not in Normal Mode leads me to believe that some 3rd-party drivers and/or programs are causing your problems.

Try this: start the machine in Safe Mode, run msconfig, and in the Startup section disable everything, OK out, and restart the machine in Normal Mode. If the machine then starts in Normal Mode, you can selectively re-enable the startups until you find the culprit(s).

Went through that drill for about three hours. Every time I thought I had it figured out, it went right back to messing up. Finally got one of those yellow warnings about a fatal error loading. It was such a PITA that I just gave up and did a clean install. I am working on the final touches now.
I do appreciate your help, but really think this was my best option.
    Regards,
    Bill
