need help with web hosting security

I have been surfing for a few days looking for something to help me protect the websites that I create and host. I was hacked 2 weeks ago and I don't want it to happen again. What can I do/use that isn't $1000 or I don't have to be an expert programmer. Isn't there an easy to use software out there that comes with detail instructions? Please help.

If your hosting on a service and someone else was able to log in to your account, they somehow have access to your user and password for the host.

I have hosted websites for over 5 years from my home plus on two hosting services all at the same time and have never been "hacked".
