    I have a dilemna. I've been trying for three days now to get rid of this file; I believe I have, but Norton Virus scanner says it is still there in my Program Files folder. I may have messed up the scanner myself by manually deleting the file before telling Norton to do so; do you believe this is the case?

    I have run Ad-Aware, AVG, " Stinger " from McAfee, Spybot - S&D, Spyblaster, and HiJack This. I read the LOG file for HJT, and attempted to fix any problems I found following the guide here on this forum.

    I have the " Cfd " file on my computer, I know. That is the only real " spyware " I have, or at least I hope so. Ad-Aware hasn't told me any different. I cannot delete " Cfd " because it is part of my Bellsouth DSL modem, and it won't function without it; or that's what it says. However I also have a file named " Ccd ". I do not know what it is, so I always close it in Task Manager when I boot up.

    AVG has caught quite a bit of trojan horses that I did not know I had; and three the last time were actually Norton files. Is Norton the problem, saying I still have the virus when I have ran Search and looked myself for the file, and even stooped to using Norton's Un-Erase Wizard to try to find it, and was not able to find it .. or do I really DO still have the trojan " WinSync.exe " ? Please help, if you can. I have attached the .txt HJT file from my last scan. I had closed everything I could other than HJT to scan, so hopefully it is accurate.

    Thank you.

    Julie,

    Welcome to MG's. You should have followed the steps in our tutorial first (including the online scanners). See this: READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

    You also need to go to Windows Update and get your critical updates. You are way out of date. Your still running IE 5.50. CCD is part of that crap that Bellsouth put on your PC. I really question how much of that is really needed to get your modem to work. I think some of it is only for diagnostic purposes when there are problems.

    Why did you have McAfee online scan running when making a log? Also, all browsers should be closed when making a log (IE, FireFox, etc).

    Also click Start, Programs, and look for Backweb. If you find it, see if there is an uninstall or if you can disable it.

    You do not appear to have SyncroAd problems.

    Ah, sorry .. >_> I overlooked that thread while looking at the HJT thread instead ..

    I've attempted several times to update my IE, but every time I do, my computer freezes. Even if I have nothing running in the background except critical items. Is there anything around this? ..

    Au, I thought I closed everything when I scanned ...

    Backweb? Okay. I knew that was something odd.

    But quick question :: Norton says I have " Syncro Ad " .. " WinSync.exe " .. so I'm assuming it's just Norton? .. any idea on how to tell the thing I don't have it anymore? >>;;

    Thanks for your help.

    make sure it's not in your add/remove programs in the control panel

    It's not .. x_X; And I even trace the URL of it that Norton gives me, and it's not there at all. Not even as a hidden file. I ran a search of my whole harddrive; nothing. I blame Norton. >_>

    You may want to try searching your registry for those items.
