    Oh Great Geeks and Guru's...

I have a problem with my music downloads. In my ignorance, I paid Urge (hooked up with Microsoft Media Player) to download much music. Last night, they turned it all off.

Seems I need to pay a MONTHLY fee to keep listening to it.

Yes, I am new at this, and did not read the fine print, and confess to ignorance.

IT does seem to me, though, that if this data is on my hard drive, and "something" needs to be restored by Urge for me to actually hear it, there may be a way around all this. Does anyone know how to do so?

If not, IS there still a site where I can download music for free or nominal cost and that has a good selection of Classic Rock?

I throw myself on your mercy.

free music? legally? nope. the first question, you cannot listen to the music until URGE gives you a licesne, only way to do that is to pay money. There were a few cracks that I heard about a while ago, though I think you can only use them if you have permission to use the music. You can try playing the music out of your speakers and rerecording it, but that's horrible quality. There are some sites (allofmp3.com is one I'm thinking of) of questionable legality that charge per download, like iTunes, but are much cheaper and can be played anywhere.

I tried a few and hate them all, in general. I find myself going to the store to buy them. This one has been fought for years and continues to go on. I tried Napster, it was ok, Itunes wasnt bad, but I want to make backups of my music and play it on my pc, stereo and car. Also, no one service has all the music I like. These online services limit how you copy what you buy. I would try a few trials of the big services and see how you like it. Until I can do what I want, at a reasonable price, I dont bother online.

You can download, illegally, music for free, but viruses and malware are everywhere and intentionally planted, so I would not advise it. Thats all we will say about it here ;)
