need help

hello everyone I'm new at this so please forgive me for any etiquette problems, please help me to learn. I have a problem if anyone could help me troubleshoot I would be greatful. When I turn on my xp the fans fire up, the green power light is on but it won't turn on the monitor also I tried inserting a start up disc but floppy light won't come on, cd rom light always flickering. I opened up side and re-seated everything, I don't know what to do,more. I check for loose connections, looks ok, also tried different monitors old,lcd still nothing,can anyone please help....

Do you have the monitor data cable plugged in to the right place? Sounds silly I know, but I have seen it. If you have a video card, make sure the cable is plugged into the port on it and not the onboard video out. i have seen people wh know computers pull that stunt.
