    Hi Chaslang:

I'm hoping you are able to help me. I believe I have been infected with the Trojan Patched Shopperz Virus. Random webpages open at will and often and I believe my firewall has been disabled.

I've tried following the directions listed here and I'm able to attach the required files.

    Many thanks for your consideration.

    Hi:

I believe I found a solution. I used Norton Power Eraser followed by Microsoft SFC (Scan and Repair System Files) to repair the affected .dll files. I also had to delete and re-install Firefox.

So far everything appears to be back to normal.

    Thank you.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

I suggest that you run a new scan with FRST and attach the new log to make sure it was properly cleaned up. Also I in the future I suggest being very careful with using utilities like Norton Power Eraser. It has been know to make PCs unbootable since it is run while the Windows operating system is not running, it could delete protected and necessary operating system files without warning. If this happens, your PC would not boot.

    Hi Chaslang:

    Many thanks for the response.

I've been attempting to run FRSTx64.exe from a flash drive (http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/how-to-run-frst64-from-flash-drive.276810/), however, I've been unable to access the BIOS with the F8 key. I've researched how to access repair mode on Windows 10 with no success. The most I've been able to achieve is booting into Safe Mode and then accessing the command prompt.

Are there more detailed instructions on how to run FRSTx64.exe on Windows 10 available?

    Thank you again.

    You're welcome.
We do not want you following those instructions anyway. :) Those instructions are more for when a PC is unbootable or for very stubborn types of infections where Windows has to be prevented from loading at all.

Windows 10 does not have a recovery environment that is the same as on Win 7 and Win 8. But there are various special boot options. See the below but you don't need it because your logs are clean.

    Hi Chaslang:

    Whew! Very good to know.

Thank you for all the help and peace of mind.

Will be sure to include some new protection on my system like Cybereason Ransomfree and Privacy Repairer amongst others.

    Thanks again.

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your Windows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • For Windows 8 and 8.1 system restore see this link: Win 8 System Restore - How to enable/disable
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    2. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
