I don't know the "inner workings" of a computer but can follow directions.
My problem is I lost windows XP. I needed more room for storage so I downloaded DoubleKiller v1.5.2.65 from PCWorld. I followed instructions and ran the program.I deleted the second file of recommend ones to delete. It deleted them.I did some more work on the computer then turned it off. Everything seemed to be OK. I went to turn on computer next day and was unable to get on because it ask for a password. I have never had this computer password protected.I tried to start in safe mode and it still asked for a password. When I try to log in under administrator , it seems to log in but it logs off right away.
I've tried microsoft support which did not have anything helpful.I tried to look in setupact.log for username but did not see anything. Nothing from the system recovery disk worked. Will I have to reload windows XP or can someone help.

    Thanks

You might want to try booting from your XP cd and running a repair install. If you're still having problems with passwords, try this:

1.) Boot from the XP CD and choose a repair installation.
2.) As the install is running, wait until it says "Installing Devices" and press SHIFT+F10.
3.) You will gain access to a command prompt. Type "NUSRMGR.CPL" and you should have Administrator access to user accounts. (Also, if you simply want to remove the password, you can alternatively enter "control userpasswords2" at the command prompt and uncheck "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer."
4.) Finish up the repair install, and you should be good to go. :)

    Hope this helps.

Thanks but it didn't work.It said that current user was not recognized.
I then tried to repair and it ran through the process but now in safe mode it has both administrator and owner. Both load settings then save settings and turn off.Neither ask for password.

    Thanks
