Just bought a Dell Inspiron B130. It is two months old and need to know if this machine will address a 120 gig hard drive. Currently has 40 gig. Also, how do I change the computer name without it messing up the wireless capabilities. I changed it once and would not log on to wireless network. Anything special I would have to do?

Thanks in advance for your help

it will handle a 120GB hard drive no problem. you'll of course have to partition and format the drive before it will show up in 'My Computer', or additionally install an OS before you can boot to it.

As for changing the name, I'm not sure why that would affect network connectivity? Simply open up system properties (right click my computer and go to properties) and change it on the Computer Name tab.

Don't understand why I would have to partition drive. Will it not read the entire 120 gig? I am hoping to have one large partition. And yes, a new OS will be installed at that time

    Thanks for your reply

Yes you can have just the one partition.

One partition is still a partition, which is what InYearsToCome meant.

OK, Thanks. I guess I was pretty much justing verifying my knowledge about one partitin as opposed to more than one. Have decided to go wqith external as I can get mre kick for the money. 250-300 gig for same price as internal 120 gig.

    Appreciate all the help

Where did you find an External cheaper?
Internal HDD are cheaper, catch the Sunday ads and you can pick up a 160GB for $40 (rebates will vary).

    160GB for $40?

Unlikely for new ones, OEM or not.

I did, a few months back at CompUSA. Had to wait for two $30 dollar rebates. Western Digital.

Rebates are a different story, and aren't available all the time.

And two rebates for the one item isn't exactly typical (or allowed?).

$40 isn't the selling price of any hard drive, let alone a 160GB one.

    It's very misleading.

he did say he has an Inspiron, in which case external storage IS much cheaper. Laptop drives are darn expensive still.

I thought about that today, figured he was talking Laptop. And External would be better in that case. I've come to accept Rebates, not a fan of them but they do cut the cost. As far as two rebates they were allowed via different offers (both still went to the same PO. Box). Today's paper had a CompUSA ad in it for a 2 day only March Madness sale. They have a 200GB Seagate (internal) for $29.99 after three Rebates ($40 Mfr, $20 CompUSA, and a $40 eRebate)

    We need a CompUSA here.

I rarely see rebates on offer.
