Need Laptop Advice

    I need to buy a laptop for son going off to college in January, but I don't have a ton of money to spend (less than $500). I've looked at refurbished - can anyone provide the pros/cons of purchasing a refurb? Are they reliable? Which would be the best? Any particular dealer better than another? Thanks for the help geeks!
