Need Laptop Back

    :cry Man, I've tried everything I could think of to get my laptop back up and running so I can get back online from home. Here's what happened....hard drive is fried....bought a new hard drive. When I go to start the system, I enter setup to select devices to use. Time is frozen in setup mode and nothing appears. Does the new, unformatted hard drive have something to do with this problem? Just downloaded dos 6.22. Going to see if I can boot the system using CD. I hope this works.

    Hi, laptop model?

    Hard Disk model and capacity?

    Are you sure that the HDD that you bought is compatible with your BIOS Capacity?

    I'd like to know this too
    What we are asking is, what size was the old hard drive? Motherboards that are older have limits on the size of hd that will work. You might be trying to use a hd that is too large.
    Also, if the hd is SATA and you are trying to install XP, the SATA drivers need to be installed first.

    OK!! It's been 23 hours since I posted this message. My problem now is finishing the installation of Windows XP Pro. Missing product key which was lost during my move from one state to another. Searching for a generator for it since I can't get in touch with Microsoft. Thanks for the replies. rolleyes

    Hi and Welcome

    Here at Majorgeeks do not condone the use of key generators for gaining keys for retail software, its possible if you have the original CD for XP that the codes on the actual CD itself "may" allow Microsoft Support to authenticate your XP version and supply you with a new key, its rare but worth a try.
