I've been trying to get the correct sound drivers for a Dell Optiplex 320.
The listing shows an ADI 198X (or SoundMax), but the computer (Win XP Pro 32-bit) does not like any of the several drivers I've tried.
Is there a program that can ID the sound chip?

Unknown Devices should help identify the manufacturer.

I would try the Dell driver again. I believe the protocol would be get and install the chipset driver from Dell and then try the audio driver. The Dell drivers should work.

    Hey there

Download "Everest" from the major geeks site it helped me out of a jam or two, the online manual was incorrect... not the first time I had come across this type of issue. I.D's everything on your motherboard it is simply the best I have been doing rebuilds for four or five years and trying to find drivers for old components or I.d them is a nightmare.. Everst was right every time.

    G luck guy.
