I don't know much about buying PC's in the UK (I assume) but here are a couple of good sites you should look at one is by the UK fair trading commision for buying PC's and the other is a price comparison website for PC's:

    http://www.oft.gov.uk/Consumer/Your+Rights+When+Shopping/Buying+a+PC/PC+buying.htm

    http://www.ciao.co.uk/Computers_5220723_1

This second one there are many you could choose from for the price range you want and many people may give you many different answers. I will have a better look and post bakc on what I think maybe a good deal.

Here are four sites to get started with. They sell pre-built computers.

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...l_Systems.html
    http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/cl.asp?bn=10627
    http://3xs.scan.co.uk/
    http://www.dabs.com/productlist.aspx...101&PageMode=1

If you are looking to build your own or are looking for more information on hardware I reccomend

    http://www.tomshardware.com/ and http://www.newegg.com

Newegg does not ship to the UK though, only within the US. But the customer comments and reviews are great for researching.

    Hope that helps.

That's one thing you shouldn't pay attention to.

And they aren't reviews, just comments and gripes.

Most aren't accurate, exhaustive or informative, nor are they written by experienced reviewers or testers.

In other words, completely pointless and useless.

(Don't want to stray off-topic, so end of rant :) )

Hey giant I think you should consider buying a good basic system but then buy an additional Graphics Card to increase the graphical output.

Try for 2Gb of RAM (prob aim for DDR2)
Mobo with SLI or CROSSFIRE capabilities (only buy 1 card for now but who knows for the future)

HAHAHA! Insomniac, I'll take that into mind next time I'm visiting that site. I find it interesting finding out what certain aspects of the hardware components are flawed and what people have trouble with when upgrading and building there own computers.

So I guess you should listen to Insomiac and completely ignore my last comment about Newegg and it's customer reviews! :)

Good luck with the new comp!

I disagree. Just because Insomiac hasn't had luck with customer reviews doesn't mean others should ignore them.

Customer reviews tend to be one sided. Either they love it or hate it. (in some rare instances you find a objective review.) Many people will praise an item even though they shouldn't but because they bought it they do. For those reasons I just listed you should always take a customer review with a grain of salt. BUT and this is a big but; You can gather really good info from these customer reviews. Problems a person is having, or many people are having, fixes to problems, good things about a item that you might not have been aware of or just the justification you were looking for to either decide to buy or decide to pass on an item.

So there is nothing wrong with reading these reviews as long as you understand that they are not a professional review by any means and in most cases quite biased.

I have read many customer reviews over the years that I thought were good and informative.

It's got nothing to do with whether I've "had luck" with them or not.

It's logical. What's the point, if they aren't professional and biased as you readily admit?

I'd rather just use Google and get relevant information.

    You're getting off topic.

Giant, exactly what kind of computer have you got now? It might be easier to upgrade, or build, than attempt to buy a complete system. And don't rule out Barebones, especially if you already have an operating system. If you go that way, you can pick the Graphics you want.

Thanks for putting it back on topic, don't know what we would have done without you. :)

LOL, plagiarism is alive and well I see. :)

@ Giant, for the money you're spending, you can get a PC that can play any current game with ease, and do anything you throw at it.

The "Titan Vantage Complete" (1st link, overclockersUK) that Halo posted is pretty good, and has a powerful video card.

The best value and performing systems are an AMD CPU 3200+ or better, with an nForce 4 motherboard, combined with 1GB of RAM or more, 160GB of hard drive or more, and a 6600GT or better video card. (that's generalising, but it gives you an indication)

Whatever you buy, make sure it comes with a proper Windows CD, and not just a recovery CD.

Looked over the Specs of the Titan Vantage Complete PC, build from Overclockers and it looks good for the £££s

I may have wanted a larger speed CPU, something in the AMD64 3500+ and above or AMDx2 CPUs but for sub £900 and a complete PC its very good value especially with a Nvidia 7600GT 256mb GFX card.
