Need software recommendation

Hey all! I need some names of some good music mixing software; like a recording studio on my PC type of thing. It can paid software or free, as long as it's good, and it has to be full featured and complete. Not necessarily professional level, but that would OK too I guess. A friend is getting into mixing music, and recording for his band, and asked me for advice, some I came here! Any links or program names will be greatly appreciated!!! THANX!!!

Depends what you want doing -

For recording I'm an avid Cubase user, sometimes use Reason and/or Sony Sourceforge, but mainly Cubase.

For mixing music I'll use Sam Party DJ just because it's brilliant, quite cheap and easy to use.

 

Thanx for the info and links. Has anyone heard of 'Fruity Loops'?? My friend mentioned it, but neither of us know anything about it other than the name...
