    Greetings and Happy New Year!

Have a blue screen stop 7E on my inspiron 6400 xp sp3.
Could not start windows in any mode other than boot from the factory cd and repair option tryed to rebuild boot.ini, but realized it creates it incorrectly, so ended up to restore the old boot.ini. DELL Diagnotics for Bluescreen type of errors run with NO ERRORS. I run scandsk c: /p /r and get no errors too.
Now before to proceed I'm trying to solvage files from the c: drive.
I created using nero vist iso cd on another laptop but it did not boot.

May be there is another better way to recover my files from the c: drive?

    Thank you in advance.

I just dealt with similar problems on a 6000; I pulled the hard drive and fitted another, installed XP from the Dell reinstallation CD, connected the old drive via a USB external case and pulled the data back over to the new drive.

The old drive tested fine in all the tests I ran, it just wouldn't run Windows anymore - the new drive has been rock-solid for 3 days now.

I followed the addvice and put the hard drive from the infected laptop into external HD enclosure and was able to copy my data.
After I copied those files I removed them from the infected HD .... It added to 4GB left space another 75 GB.
After putting back the infected HD to the laptop, I was able to boot, my 7E Blue screen dissapeared, and guess what? the search redirect problem dissapered too.

I can explain that may be 7E was caused by lack of space on the drive, but how to explain redirect problem gone?
    Any ideas?

    thanks a lot!

Without a thorough analysis of the files on your system and those removed, I can only guess why the redirect problem has gone.

I would go to the Malware forum and go through the steps very carefully, there may still be an infection.

All the files you pulled off from the possibly infected drive should also be thoroughly scanned or you will have another computer infected.
