need some help please

I have read through the forums, even did a search of blue screen, read it all. But I'm still confused.

I have a gateway, with windows xp, i don't remember all the specifics. Anyways, for a while, I was getting an error, something about a dl being missing(?) Looked up what it was, what to do about it. It was all fine. Then I started getting a blue screen, computer would restart back up in safe mode. It seemed to happen when ever I tried to play rollercoaster tycoon. I had played it before on the same computer, but it had never effected it. After a while, it wouldn't even restart, just shut off, and I would have to unplug it for a bit to get it running, and when I did, I could only be on it for like 1/2 hour before it would happen again.

Now, I'm sitting here on my boyfriends computer, cuz mine won't even start. I try to start it, the button on the front turns orange and stays orange and the moniter says that the moniter is working correctly, but to check a cable. It always says that when the tower isn't turned on but the moniter is. I had one person tell me that it was the video card, and another says its the motherboard. How can I tell? Is my computer trash? I don't have the money to get another computer, so any way to get mine running again would help me alot.

 

Do you know your way around the BIOS? If so see if your board has onboard video & select it. Turn the computer off & unplug it for safety. Open the case & remove the video card. Boot up & see how far you get.
