need some help with HTML coding

Hello all....

I know this is probably a no-brainer to most people, But heres my question:

I am building a Website with Dreamweaver CS4, When i try to add any type of file, such as mp3 for a music player program, or just a normal file for download...Firefox and Internet explorer can never find the file...Any ideas on why that might be happening?


Heres the code that I am using:

If its the wrong code would anyone be able to tell me the right one to use?

 

please dont take this the wrong way, but did you change "yourfile.xxx" to the name of your file?

Also i see an additional Quote in the href tag, try this example on for size:

I have a file on my server called "installer.exe" in the same folder i have a html document called index.html

to download installer.exe from a browser that is viewing index.html i would use

<a href="installer.exe" target="_blank">Download</a>

for files, the target tag isnt important.
if the file is in a folder (eg myfolder), which is in the same directory as index.html i would use:

<a href="myfolder/installer.exe" target="_blank">Download</a>

if index.html is in a sub folder to where installer.exe is, i would use

<a href="../installer.exe" target="_blank">Download</a>

yeah i did change that part i just pasted the original code up.

 

Srry for the Double post...For some reason the Edit button was gone.

But anyways i Figured out where i was messing up. I had to add .exe on the end of the filename....and i kept forgetting to. :mad

 

i think it on the file name try to check it
