need some help

well i'm kinda new at this but i have a problem i have dial up internet and here is my problem i can dial on the net work computer but when i go to internet explorer the page can't be display but when i go to lime wire or win amp it works so why don't i can get to like yahoo or any other web pages i do have another web browser but that don't work eather can you please help!!!!!!

 

Are you running a firewall? Maybe you (or your computer) accidentally configured it to deny your browsers internet access.

 

did you configure your internet connection?
in IE go to tools>options> select the connections tab and see if there are any connections configured.

 

ok i don't haave a fire wall and my connection is ste up for my dial up connection

 

has your isp provided you instructions for use

 

well it was working befor and i was cleaning out my pc and the next day it didn't work i'm just trying to figer out how get get it back

 

Try resetting TCP/IP. Click start > run and type 'netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt' (without quotes). Try again.

 

ok erikske that didn't work eather it can't find what you told me to type in i didn't tell every one that i'm running windows ME if that help you guys out

Ok, my fault too. I always assume people are using XP when they don't specify their operating system.

ok erikske that didn't work that program that you told me to down load it told me everything is ok there is no problems and i don't know what to do next

Maybe something went wrong with the DNS settings. Try typing http://64.233.183.103 in the address bar. If this takes you to Google, your DNS settings are incorrect.
Also, run the ipconfig program and paste its output here. Open a command prompt by clicking start > run, type 'command' (without quotes) and press enter. Now type ipconfig /All and copy the result. Paste here.

Now, there are a few things to check. First, check your hosts file. It is located at c:\windows\hosts. Open it with notepad. There should be only one entry in it which looks like this
127.0.0.1 localhost
If there are more entries, create a backup of hosts and delete all those extra entries. Save and restart your computer.
Secondly, check your DNS settings. Follow the Windows ME instructions on http://xtra.co.nz/help/0,,6156-1407367,00.html#2, but substitute the primary and second DNS addresses with the ones your ISP gave you (do not use the addresses on this web page). If you didn't get any addresses, Check the disable DNS option. Click OK and connect to the internet. Now try again.

 

Hows his internet gonna function well for him with no dns? Might suggest you try calling your isp for some troubleshooting/plus ask for the correct dns info.

 

ok well there is the only one local host there and my dns is disable but i don't know what i'm doing so i left it the way it is i retryed to it again and it still didn't get any web pages like yahoo so now what i shuld try confused

 

starters go back and enable dns,

 

It won't . As opposed to what you might think, 'Disable DNS' does not 'disable' DNS.

Do not 'Enable DNS' unless your ISP explicitly told you to do so.
Follow the instructions on http://support.hubris.net/knowledge_base/023.html to set up DNS correctly.
These instructions will work for most dial-up accounts. If not, check with your ISP to obtain the correct settings.

 

you all know i'm new at this but i know one thing when you disable the DNS it still finds it automaticly so you don't have to put it in your self

 

Correct. That's why they renamed 'Disable DNS' to 'Obtain DNS server address automatically' in winXP. 'Disable DNS' is obviously confusing.

 

but any ways thisa is what i have done ok for one i reinstall my computer and see if it can find what is missing but that didn't work the i called my isp and they told me do download the software what is funny cause if i can't get to a web sit then how can i down load anything confused but any ways i did down load the software on my other pc and tranfure it to the other and yet it didn't work :cry but i have nto any closer to anything rolleyes i'm going to try some other thing and see if these thing work :taz

 

ok you all i have bad news i fryed my pc.............. just joking naw i fix my pc it took a wile but i did it all my self i went threw dell support and did diagnostics and tested everything and it all passed then i went to there downloads and down load patchs and fix and poof it worked don't rember what i downloaded but hell it work ...... but i what to thank for those who help me on this i learned more stuff for your help hell i foundhow to speed my pc up more but ty all and you what to drop a line bf_pd2@hotmail.com hope i don't have to go threw this again well i gusses this is it have fun you all see you al on the flip side
