Im currently using ZoneLabPro/BlackIce for my firewalls....And Nod32/Sopho AntiVirus for my antiviruses....

I need help on which too chose from those, cause my comp is getting slow.. Or can you suggest a better firewall/antivirus would also be helpful..

If you really want to get rid of something just use a HW firewall. software firewalls are less secure then HW firewalls anyways. Plus most people ususally already have HW fire walls these days. If you've got a router setup somewheres it has a built in firewall. You may want to change a few configurations but a HW firewall is a good way to go.

As for antivirus I just use AVG. Although it's been years since I've even had a virus. Viruses only get on your computer if you arn't careful and download them in the first place, so an antivirus should really only be a backup. If your antivirus is catching viruses all the time you should take a step back and look at how come you keep downloading so many. It's very rare that you'll get one without downloading it yourself.

Thx CoCo...I am gonna still use Nod32 cause it has a nice heuristic/virus detector. And Im gonna just stick with BlackIce... ZoneLab is making my comp lagg alot.

Any one know a good antivirus program instead of norton/mcafee, and that uses not alot of resources and has a good virus detector?

If you were using 2 Software firewalls at once no wonder you suffered from some sort of lag.... its not recomended to run 2 firewalls or 2 AntiVirus programs at once ( live scanning ) as they will most likey confict with each other.

If you are sticking with NOD32 then dont install another AV ... but take advantage of some of the free online scanners by the major players...

    Trend's Housecall
    Panda Active Scan
    McAfee FreeScan
    Symantec Security Scan

    To name a few

I still need to know what is a good antivirus that doesnt use alot of resources and has a nice virus detector and a good heuristic detector cause, I got rid of Nod32 even tho it had nice heuristic/virus detector, but it has a hard way of getting rid of them.....

Thx anyways Halo, but I am not into the online scanners, but if you know a good virus scanner post again...

Avast is a good low resource AV.... plus its free

What I ment is as you seemed to have 2 AVs installed at once, having one AV and using online scans as a secondary check is a good backup, these online scans are from the same companys that produce the retail versions and use same scan technology.

also another peice of software to look at is A2 ( A-Squared ) this is a complimentary trojan, dialer & malware scanner and works well with other AVs
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4281.html this software is not ment to be your only virus/trojan scan.. you still need a full blown AV scan that scans live/background.

I dont really like avast the interface is bad & the scanning is slow...but i will try the A-Squared .. Thx

But i still need a good antivirus program instead of norton/mcafee, and that uses not alot of resources and has a good virus detector..

  8. Hi XspeedyX,

Well, you pretty much shot down to popular AV's here at Major Geeks, but you should probably use whatever makes you comfortable. After using Norton Pro and Pc-cillin, I opted to use Avast. Been using it for almost 2 years and has yet to fail me.
One word of advice, dump Black Ice ;). Don't get me wrong, I used BI for a while but figured why use a firewall that only protects inbound traffic when you can get in/out bound protection. Basically, why settle for less?

    Zone Alarm
    Sygate Personal Firewall
    Outpost Firewall

    Hope this helps.

Well, I finally decided to get the Trend Micro Internet Security 2005 a try..

If you use this antivirus did you have any problems with it?
