I am able to rebuild my old AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition computer.

    I will be buying a different mother board.GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3P (Rev. 2.0)

What i need help with is will this CPU cooler i have fit this motherboard.

If this cpu cooler i have will not fit the motherboard what small cpu cooler would you recommend.

I think the only issue i had with this MSI motherboard is it's not working properly any more.So i am trying to provide new upgrades like the ones below.

New Sata connections 6Gb's i will buy three of them.

And a new video card to replace my old 550 TI that over heats and no loner works properly for what i need.
    ASRock Phantom Gaming Radeon RX 560 DirectX 12 RX560 4G 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 (Uses x8) HDCP Ready Video Card

I all ready have the necessary parts like RAM,Power supply EVGA 600watts should be more than enough.Got plenty of fans.Had to buy some random parts like the PCI slot plates.I only have two so i had to buy more.I bought a new thing of arctic silver 5 thermal paste.I find this to be very good conductive for heat spreading.

Looking to get maxed out.I never used a Gigabyte motherboard be for.Mostly MSI boards for over clocking.

    I recently (April / May 18) built a new system with that very MB (GA970A DS3P Rev2.x).

In the first instance, this particular mobo is only good for modest o/cing although some have managed to get decent results.

The reason for this is that this MB has a 4+1 phase VRM and as such is not recommended for o/cing. Also this board handles cpu's with max 125TDW and this is a limiting factor also. I note that the cpu that you are going to use draws 125w.

So if o/cing is going to be your prime consideration I think that you should look for another mobo (plenty of posts on the internet about this board). Especially so since your CPU is at the TDW max level already.

The NB to this board AMD 970 will get extremely hot too and this will cause stability issues.

This was my first Gigabyte board and I do like it.

I am running an FX6300 (6-core Vishera, 95TDW) at stock, 8GB ram and an MSI GTX660 o/c vga with a 650W Corsair RMi psu. No issues.

If you are still going to go with this board, then the cooler will be an important feature. I personally use Artic Ceramique compound since it is non conductive and easier to put on and take off.

Because of the NB heat issues I decided not to use a tower cooler such as the one you linked to but one that blows down onto the board (cools adjacent NB). I also replaced both the stock NB and SB also. If you need info about the parts that I used let me know.

Also, imo, if you still want to o/c on this board you should go for an FX6300 or similar 95w TDW cpu so as to allow the headroom for a more successful outcome rather than the 125w Phenom.

    Good Luck

ps. Remember the ram for this board needs to be 1.5v and this board also has issues with ram that is o/ced and not running at 1333Mhz (stock) due to cpu controller limitations.
