Need to be Notified of New Mail

This year I finally dropped AOL as my ISP and moved to my local phone company (bellsouth.net). Overall, I am much happier but I do miss a few things about AOL.

The main one is I am not notified when I receive new email. With AOL, a number appeared next to the READ indicator on the toolbar to let you know if you had any email and how much. Now I have MAIL icon with my new ISP but the only way you know if you have mail is to click on the icon and see if anything is there.

While this may not seem to be a big deal, two things can happen: 1-if I get tied up in my work and forget to check the mail I may not get to answer an email that needs to answered quickly, 2-it is just a pain to have to check into the mail section just to see there is any mail.

Does anyone know of a way that I can resolve this problem? I tried Yahoo email and the Yahoo toolbar but found it to be very unreliable (sometimes it worked okay, sometimes it indicated I had new email when I didn't but most of the time it didn't indicate that I had any email when I did).

    Your help would be appreciated.

Maybe I missed this - what mail reader are you using?

ePrompter the Free eMail Notification Software might do the trick. You can find it here: eprompter.com

It is extremely easy to install and configure and use and it works with almost all ISP e-mail services. Users can very easily set the ePrompter application to check up to 16 separate password-protected e-mail accounts. Notification consists of a flag in your system tray, which is color-coded for each different e-mail account.

Using this program; you can (by just clicking on the blinking taskbar button) – check – read – save – and forward or delete the e-mails which come in to your accounts. There is no need to open your e-mail program or be at the ISP's site. You can even set it up as a 'screensaver notifier' with a choice of five screensaver options.

When you get a new message, you simply click the icon and start reading. Composing a new e-mail or responding is a snap and best of all it is freeware and updated for bugs, security, etc are automatic once it is installed.

I have attended many computer-related as well as freeware-related forums over the years and I have yet to see any major bugs, security flaws etc. reported or even a single 'credible' negative review of this handy product.

P.S. I was surprised that this software is not listed here at the geeks site in the e-mail related software section.

    Good Luck!

The new toolbar offered here at Major Geeks also has the feature built in.

I installed this software (need to play around and learn a few things and understand a few other things). My main concern is providing your password to the software -- how is the password protected?
