Need to delete boot option

I installed a new disk and cloned it with Maxtor's disk utility.

I am running Windows 2000 Pro and decided to upgrade it to Windows xp pro on the new disk - mainly to cure the Windows program removal failure on 2000.

Something went wrong with Windows xp installation and now when I boot I get a selection option of Windows 2000 or Windows XP. I want to delete the Windows XP option and run just Windows 2000 for now.

Is there a program - preferably free - that will let me delete the Windows XP option and boot straight to Windows 2000 until I decide what to do about Windows XP?

I succeeded with the 2nd method, although the start and recovery screen looks a little different in Windows 2000 XP.

As for the first method I could edit boot.ini in notepad even though it never appears in explorer window. It is a read only file and could not be saved, the methods given in MS database for editing did not work, i.e., uncheck hidden files and uncheck hide system files, this is supposed to display a %system% file that when right clicked allows editing of the boot.ini file, none of the steps given by MS displayed that file. Instead of going further I just used the 2nd method you gave with satisfactory results.

    Thanks for the help.
