Need To Fix Dsl Upload Speed And Maybe A Memory Leak Problem

My problems are high CPU and RAM usage and slow DSL upload speed. I think these are all related.

A few months back I started noticing that my browser would freeze up after a few hours of use. I have changed browsers several times and it does not seem to matter too much which one, but IE is a litter better than Firefox. And it seems that Facebook on Firefox is the worst combination. I assumed that this problem was partially due to my computer getting older and only 4 Gb of RAM. So I started using Task Manager to monitor the issue and saw very high CPU usage when nothing was really running.

A few days ago I started a process to get a new job with a company that is outsourcing customer service and when I tested my computer it failed the upload speed test. My DSL package is from CenturyLink and is supposed to be 10 Mhz (?) ... the download test registered at between 7 and 8 so that was ok but the upload speed was less than 1 ... Where do I start to try and fix this. Is it software or hardware? or DSL provider? can anyone point me in the right direction?

Which process(es) in Task Manger is/are responsible for the high CPU usage?

Test your download and upload speeds here.

OK took me a few minutes to figure this out.

First I restarted my computer. Then I opened Task Manager and the Resource Monitor. With no other programs open, the top of the list for CPU usage was "System Interrupts", followed by "Performance".

Then I opened Internet Explorer and Firefox. Now Firefox (using 3 to 12%) was at the top of the list followed closely by IE. IE dropped down a bit because I opened this window in Firefox.

They change so fast in Task Manager that I have trouble following. But the resource monitor was easier to read.

Hope this is the right information.

In Resource Monitor, click CPU. The highest values will be at the top of the column.

Did you test your download/upload speeds?

yes I did test them. I used speed test and the download was between 7 and 8 but the upload was less than 1 about .6

Here in the Northeast, I am on Windstream with a 12 Mbps DSL connection and my normal download speed is 10-12 Mbps and a .6 Mbps upload speed. This is a normal speed for my connection. My upload speed has never been more than .6 and never will be higher.

That is not good news for me ... I need it to be at least 1.5 ... this is a job requirement. Never had occasion to look at this number before and since I have been experiencing some other "slow" issues thought it was related. Maybe either need more RAM or might have an infection of some sort or maybe a hardware issue ... Major Geeks has always had the answer in the past. Still hopeful

Eldon is overseas in South Africa (I believe) where the internet speeds are different from the US, some foreign country anyways. Maybe you can check with your local cable operator to see what packages they can offer.

My ISP does not provide upload speed on the web site. So I will need to call them to get it and it is now outside their normal hours so I will have to wait on that information. I have been rerunning the speed test but as it is getting later my speeds are slowing down which I have noticed happens every night ... Thank You Century Link!

So I will provide more information as soon as I can get it. Thanks for your help so far.

Finally got to talk to CenturyLink. As "plodr" stated above this is a CenturyLink issue. I get between .4 and .6 upload speed on most of the tests I have done, once I got a .7. So thanks to everyone who look at this for me. This is a dead issue.
