Need To Install New Os

Computer = Toshiba Notebook Satellite-Pro 440
Hardrive = 1.4 G, 133 Mhz Pent.
Operating System (present) Win 95
Operating System (future) Win 98
CD-ROM

I have had many problems with both the OS and applications for some time. I have decided that it would be best to reformat the drive and install a full version of 98. I also have a full version of 95 and ME as well, however, considering HD space and performance my thinking is 98 as the best compromise.
I need guidance; I made a "Backup Disk" which contains FDISK. I assume this is a good place to start. Please advise!

 

Jus have the win 98 installer cd. Turn on ur pc n jus run win 95 as u wud be normally doin n put dat cd in cd drive..run d setup n follow d instructions...U don neccesarily need to format .Dis will work as good as formating..

 

I've been down this road "just install 98 installer cd". Since my cd's are all "full installations", not upgrades, my computer replys with a "can't install, use upgrade only" failure.

I don't know any other way other than reformatting the drive!

Does your computer have a floppy drive? If so, all that you need to reformat is a Win98 boot disk. The reason for the Win98 boot disk, and not Win95, is that the Win98 disk loads CD ROM drivers also, and Win95 didn't until OSR 1. If you don't have access to a Win98 boot disk, go to bootdisk.com and download one. It will be a self extracting WinImage file, and you will need a formatted floppy to make it.
