Owwww, my ears! I upgraded my BIOS. Everything went fine except for one thing - my new BIOS has decided that my CPU temp is actually 5 degrees higher than it previously recorded and thus throttled up my fan. The fan, which already isn't exactly one of the most silent, is now making a noise which rivals my vacuum cleaner's and it's driving me CRAZY!!

I have a Gigabyte P4 Titan motherboard with an AWARD BIOS updated through @BIOS. Is it safe to downgrade BIOS and if so how is it done?

PS: Yes I DID check to see if smart fan control is enabled. It is. And disabling it makes it even NOISIER!
PPS: I still have a backup of the old BIOS(.bin format).

BIOS updates follow the rule of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". If the list of fixes does not address your problem, leave it be. If you upgraded your BIOS and are having issues, you can reset the cmos by finding a clrcmos or similar jumper on your board and moving the jumper to connect the 2 pins, then back where it was. From there, you can install the old BIOS.

Nevermind I fixed it by reloading the old one with @BIOS. My hands are sweatty and shaking, whoo what a nice little adventure. :D

That works, remember, you can always reset the cmos, your manual shows you how. This is good if, for example, your computer wont start after a failed attempt. Knowing this, based on todays fun, should have you fairly well prepared for the next time :)

Yeh my heart skipped a few beats during the BIOS upgrade and downgrade restarts, especially the latter. I would have reset the CMOS but I was too lazy. XD Got a question though, does CMOS reset reset only BIOS settings or does it reset the BIOS version to the factory-installed one also?

Also note to self - after hearing just how bad the fan can sound I actually think of it as ultra-silent now. Haha.

Resets BIOS to factory shipped settings :)

Then it wouldn't have helped in case I instaled a faulty BIOS right?
