When I left my job, they allowed me to keep my laptop. While cleaning it up today, I decided to delete the Exchange account from Outlook. As soon as I did, all my folders disappeared and I couldn't access any of my old mail or calendar items. My connection to my isp for my personal email is screwed up now too. I can see all the items when running the mailbox clean-up tool in Outlook, but can't figure out how to get the data back. I suspect that it has something to do with an OST file vs a PST file. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

OK, I found a utility to convert the .ost file to a .pst file. I downloaded and ran the demo which ran successfully. However, the demo replaces all the message content with demo content. The utility costs $250. Does anyone have a freeware or low cost suggestion for converting .ost to .pst?

Wouldn't it be easier to restore your computer to a date before you deleted exchange?

If it doesn't work, you can undo the restore and be back to where you are now.

That was the first thing that I tried to do. Unfortunately, I had a virus a several months back and followed the instructions here on Majorgeeks to clean it up. The first step was to turn off System Restore. When I was done, I forgot to turn it back on. I'm really a victim of my own ineptitude at this point. Thanks for the suggestion though.

    Hoping I found a solution

After multiple Google searches I've come across a data conversion house in Maryland called Password Crackers, Inc. Their website is www.pwcrack.com. They charge $15 for a single ost to pst conversion. I'll give them a shot and report back how they do. This is certainly a lot better than paying $250 to $600 for a commercial app when you only have one file to convert.

This service turned out to work great. I uploaded my zipped ost file to their ftp site and two days later I got it back as a password protected zip file containing the pst version. Once I paid the $15 invoice via PayPal (they take credit cards too) they emailed me the password for the zip file. Great service, great price and couldn't be easier. Thank you Password Crackers! You guys were a lifesaver.

Not to burst your bubble, or revive a resolved issue, but you can create a new account and point it to your old .ost file to bring your old inbox back.

I tried to edit my original post, but took too long. My browse button is grayed out only because I am currently connected to an exchange server with that ost.
