Hello guys. I have been using MS Outlook 2007 from a last couple of years. First I used it on Win 7, but now I'm using it on Win 8. I never faced corruption issue while using Outlook in Win 7. Last week I was trying to open one of .pst file, but I couldn't. I received this error: "Outlook.pst is not a personal storage folder file". I searched about this error on some forums and most of them declared it a corruption error. So I tried SCANPST.EXE to determine the main problem behind this error. It didn't show any error. It seems SCANPST.EXE is not able to fix it. Is there any other way to fix this corruption, if it is corruption? Or, is it possible to resolve this error without using any paid pst recovery software?
    Please help me.
    Regards.

It's possible the error is in Outlook itself, rather than in the .PST file. Very often you will find that there is more than one .PST file on a system, and if you have more than one try opening one of the others. If that also errors you need to repair Outlook using your installation media or by right clicking the entry in Programs and Features and clicking Change

How were you trying to "open" a PST file?

    swills...

a .pst can only be opened using a hex editor. This calls for care, but there are some steps you can take so that scanpst will do the repair you are seeking. First take a look here:

    http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/restoredeleteditemsfromanoutlookpst.htm

If you have many .pst filles, you will of course need to be able to identify the correct one to run the repair on. I start with the most recent one for the affected e-mail account (look at the date of the .pst file). This has worked for me in the past...

It is certainly a corruption issue and as it is not solved yet, I would like to suggest a third-party PST Repair application here. The error "Outlook.pst is not a personal folder file" means the file is either corrupted or invalid. And due to this Outlook can't identify the file as .pst. If SCANPST.EXE has been already used to fix this corruption and failed, this means the corruption is severe and can only be fixed by a third-party PST Repair application. I have faced such a situation a couple of weeks ago and successfully fixed it with the help of SysInfoTools PST File Repair application. It recovered all my crucial emails and my Outlook mailbox data and saved them into a new file. You can also check its demo version before buying any third-party application. You can download it for free. Visit SysInfoTools' website.
