I have a hard drive in my PC going bad. My youngest daughter knocked it over a few weeks ago. It wouldn't boot up. I took out the drive and put into another PC, ran various scan disks, defrags, etc. and thought I had it fixed. It still boots up, but it acts strange. It has obvious issues.

I have a new hard drive on order and plan to do a new OS install (Win7), install all drivers for the machine, reinstall programs, etc. All the fund stuff. Is there a way to copy all files, settings, email accounts, and more like you would with the Easy Transfer Wizard but with the old hard drive in the computer and running off the new hard drive? I figured cloning would just copy any errors from the old drive to the new one.

When I had this problem, I simply did a Restore from a System Image.

I used Macrium - it's free and simple to use.

Put an image on a good hdd, install your new hdd and choose the new hdd as the destination.

Make a boot DVD(go into BIOS and pick DVD drive as priority boot- then change back after the process is complete) and follow instructions.

All the info from the hdd (settings programs, etc. will be there).
