    hi shonuff5
one thing is important is to properly uninstall all the codecs from the registry before removing the files. Some freeware do it quite fine, like DirectShow Filter Manager (link) Hope it will help

Thank you for your reply, here is my problem... I used to use dvd santa, then something happened and now it freezes up my computer. And the reason I don't want to use a different avi to dvd program, is because none of the others can compare to the quality i get from dvd santa. I would really love to be able to use this program again without reformatting y drive. So i figured if i uninstalled all my codecs, then freshly installed them, then maybe it would work again. Any ideas?

It freezes because mainly one or more codecs are missing or entries in the registry have been deleted. Try to install one of these collections of free codecs and related tools you'll find here on MG like K-Lite. The installation is fully customizable, meaning that you can install only those components that you really want. Let us know it it works

I installed the k lite full package, and it still locks up my computer.

Jeez..! Did you check out for virus or malware ? Try also to uninstall dvd santa and set it up again, this issue may also involve registry entries related to this soft. Don't forget to check out the logfiles by taping eventvwr.msc /s and have a look in the system and app sections. You may find detailed warnings about device errors.

Found warnings and errors, but don't really know what to do about them.

Check out if some errors are related to dvd santa (device that can't initialize or missing file, or memory dump etc). You 've got to open them all by double clicking on each entry and see its property page. If nothing wrong, be sure about dvd santa integrity, maybe the file is corrupted by virus or malware. Finaly, try to reinstall the app. To my opinion there is no need to reformat the drive, try first all basic fixes..
