    Hi,

I want to update the drivers to the new motherboard and graphics card that I recently installed and check to see what other drivers need to be updated and a BIOS update. As many of you know, I don't have a magic touch with computers, especially software. I don't know if things such as chipsets, etc, can or neeed to be updated. I have:

    - ASUS A8V-VM SE - Motherboard - micro ATX - K8M890 - Socket 939 - UDMA133, SATA (RAID) - Ethernet - video - 6-channel audio
    - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 SATA 3.0Gb/s 320Gb hard drive (RAID array not set up)
    - VGA MSI NX8400GS-TD256EH 8400GS RT (video card)
    - ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler
    - Corsair 620W PSU
    - Ballistix 2x1G RAM, 184-pin DIMM, 128MX64 DDR PC3200, Unbuffered
    - NORCO-4618 PCI-X / PCI eSATA / SATA II / SATA I Controller Card RAID 0/1/5/10/JBOD
    - Windows XP X64, SP2
    - NetFramework 2.0 Redistributable Pack for X64

I've attached the Everest Report that I ran today, in 2 parts because 1 was too big.

I'm hoping that I never have to format my pc as I've had to do because of all the problems I was experiencing with the previous mobo but I'd like to save the drivers, not just download them.

I don't know if this is asking a lot but if you can give me the name of the drivers that need to be updated and the url for them, I'd appreciate it very much. I would like the name of the driver and the url for them even if they presently don't need to be updated so that I'll know what to do and where to go for them in the future.

The motherboard is a bit dated so I don't think that any new drivers have been released for it. You have an NVidia video card; drivers are available here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp64_169.21_whql.html This is the newest available for XPx64, released Dec 19, 2007. One of the easiest ways to get hardware updates, but not always 100% reliable or up to date but usually pretty close, is Windows Update. If you click Custom instead of using the Express (or Automatic updates) button, you will get a list of software updates; look to the left and you'll see a link for Optional Hardware updates. Click it and see what's available.

    Good luck!

Are they the only drivers that I'll ever need to update? Should I check for update drivers for the cpu or anything else?

I checked your link above, and the newest drivers were released at the end of 2006. I can't image that you'd need any of these drivers if all your devices are working fine. If you're really concerened, run something like PCWizard or Everest or Belarc or any other system info tool (or a driver info tool) and make a note of your current driver versions. Then check them against what is available at the Asus web site. You would then know if you have the most current drivers. But, like I said, if everything is working, sometimes it's best to leave 'well enough' alone; "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is a very fitting phrase. Whilst checking driver versions, do the same with your video drivers. If a newer one is available, install it. And yes. The video driver is probably the only driver you will need to update fairly regularly if you are playing newer games. If you're not gaming or doing anything that is really graphic intensive, then updating your video drivers may not be necessary.

    Hi dlb,

Thanks for your response. I came to the same conclusion also. I went to the Asus driver download website and noticed the date of the updates so I left well enough alone.

I've just formatted the pc and installed some programs and microsoft updates.

I haven't found the setting for the way folders and scrolling waves instead of moving normally, like the favorites list. It's driving me crazy!
