need upgrade help

so im thinking of buying a new computer but id rather upgrade mine if possible.

anyone know if you can put a dual core processor in a single core computer? i have a acer with a amd 64 atholon processor.

 

If you have a single core CPU now chances are you will need a new Mobo with a new LGA775 socket i believe...is the dual core/quad core ones.

the LGA1366 is the core i7 ones.

computer: Acer Aspire T180 2.4 GHZ
ram: 3gig upgradable to 8gig 160 GB hard drive
processor: AMD Atholon 3800+ 64 bit

 

Sadly i never used AMD i only know intel stuff so someone else is gonna have to help you cuz anything i find out is something you can find out to from google.

 

Hi, when upgrading the processor, the motherboard is the key ingredient.
You can try to search online for your computer specs and it may tell you what mobo you are using.
Or, you can open the case and see if you can get any numbers off of the board itself and search it that way.

Here is 1 example, it is in the lower left corner of this board. The numbers and letters are usually larger on most of the boards that I have seen, but this should help.
