Need urgent help with Win98 startup

Hello! I'm having an emergency with my boss's PC. We don't really have an IT, and since I'm the most experienced user I get stuck with it. Normally it's fine, but I think I just killed my boss's PC. He's been having a problem with spyware/malware so I did some research and downloaded SpyBot S & D from this site and ran it according to the directions. I deleted all of the red items and rebooted like it says. Here's the problem while rebooting Windows 98 won't load!!!! I get an error that says "NAV Auto Protection - Unable to determine the location of the configuration files", I hit OK because it's the only choice. Win 98 continues to load, the logon for Microsoft Networking appears and I enter the password, then the logon script executes. After that a window appears that says "Explorer - This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down." Hit close (only option) and I get a blank screen. That's it. No desktop, no icons, no start menu, nothing. HELP!!!!!
