My video card fan died. The card is a Hercules Guillemot 3D Prophet DDR-DVI. Unfortunately, the guarantee ended a long time ago.

We went to several comp stores today, and they can't find a fan to fit my card. They had a round one (mine is square) that had holes in the right places, but the pins were too big to fit it in.

Is there a place where I could buy a specific fan? If not, is there such a thing as a universal fan?

    Thank you.

We bought the computer in August 2000.

The card is fine, it's just the fan that's not working, and I'd much rather spend about 10$ on a new fan than about 60$ on a new card that's going to be inferior to the Prophet I have.

This computer will become the backup machine in a few weeks because I'm on the verge of buying a whole new system. I don't want to invest in a really good graphics card for the old computer, and it seems a shame to throw out an otherwise okay card just because of the fan... I might have to resort to it though.

    But thanks for the input...

Again, don't take me wrong - but you'd be hard pressed to find a new graphics card that is worse than a 4 year old card look for a second hand Ti4600 - I just sold one for £40 or go for a fx5900 for around $100 - $150

100$ U.S. (about 150 canadian) is already more than I would have liked to spend - on THAT computer (saving for the NEW machine) - but hey, sometimes you just have to dig out the money :)

On the other hand, I just noticed there are two sets of holes on my card, I might be able to get another fan to fit *those* holes. If not, I'll have to look for a new card (which can be exciting, too... it's always good to have a new toy).

You can get a decent card for less than $60 I recon.

But eitherways... you can put a fan onto a card thats not supposed to be there... get a chipset fan and glue it on with THERMAL EPOXY. Not an ideal solution, but it works.

If you find a fan that fits on it but with the wrong connecter, you can just use the old fan connecter and cut the wire.

Brother send me a PM. We can dicuss me sending you a GeForce3 ti500 64meg. I have one that's not being used. It's actually new & has only been in a machine long enough to make sure it worked.

Is the card you have an ATI Chip or Nvidia?

Ya talk to this guy, i am currently running a Gainward Geforce 3 TI500 128DDR and it still kicks ass. Its not no 6800 but it also aint half as much as it.

Hey guys, sorry for not getting back to you before now.

My problem was finding a fan that would fit in the existing holes, not the connector.

But Guillemot *phone* support (e-mail support is lousy) invited me over and they had a spare fan that fit... different model, much nicer than the old one, with a Hercules sticker on it.

    So everything's fine, for a big whole 5$ !
