Need Windows installer....

Yeah..Major problems, first, many of my drivers got wiped out, i;ve replaced some of them, but my device manager does not work, so i cant re-set up the things, like my audio card....and windows installer is ALSO not working, so i can't fix device manager....and i cant a place to download Installer, so...yeah...any one know of a place to get a copy of it?

 

Its built into the OS. If you are using XP, go into msconfig and make certain all of your services are checked.

 

yeah...i've checked that, just did it again...all checked, none even mention installer or device manager...

 

Click Start then Run in the box type sfc /scannow

Put your XP CD in then hit OK. When it's done try to open Device Manager.

Try this:

Click on the link below, go to line #107 on the right-hand side,Restore the Device Manager. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.

ok...i've done that, and device manager opens, but it is blank..completely blank...

 

You may have to edit the Registry.

See if THIS helps.

 

Another thing to look into is checking your services. Start, Run, type in Services.msc and checking to see anything that is set for automatic and is not running. Is windows installer running? What about BITS?

What do you have for the following keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies

also:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

 

windows installer is set to automatic and running...and i dont even HAVE a BITS application...

and for the first regestry key:

Ext
NonEnum
Ratings
System

and the second:

Explorer


if you want any of the inner folders, say which ones, and i'll type it up..

Sorry, that was for theefool, and yes, i did try what you were suggesting, it was already set up in that fashion

 

You're running out of options fast, and you don't have a CD to do a repair do you?

 

yeah, i'm afraid I'm going to have to get it wiped and reinstalled....

and no, no CD, didnt come with one and I havent found a place to get one that actually works....

 

Make sure you followed the steps correctly in the link Insomniac furnished.

Especially these, just to make sure.

4. With "Enum" selected click the "Security", "Permissions" menu.

Ok, i've tried it again, and every time I attempt to "add" it says that the group cannot be found, and i'll aslo add that it already shows that those groups and users are already there...

 

ok, i've noticed something else. under the "services.msc" windows installer will run, but then it suddenly stops running....
