Computer started crashing a week or so ago...

    Hello again.

I need your help, with this. I am not sure what is going on, but I am pretty sure that it has to do with my hardware. I have a decend computer, but it is not fully pre-assembled, and not fully manually made. (With this I mean is that I had an 1y old HP and upgraded it.) But IMO this shouldn't be a big problem.

Now, what is happening is this: My computer is used very often. Every day for 2-6 hours. It is mostly under mild preasure. But I do play a lot of games, my PC can power most of games, so I like to set everything to high. Ware and tare might be present. (If it exists)

It worked fine for all the time, but now a week or so ago, it started becoming unstable. It is crashing and Windows hangs. And sometimes when I play games, I get some wrong like graphics. Red Green and (what's the other colour ) lines, and everything freezes. Sounds like a GPU problem.

It is true that my computer mostly freezes during games and labour intensive programs. But it also happens that it freezes in plain windows zooming. For example, watching a flash video, and installing a game or copying somethings. Last time I was installing Empires total war, and it crashed like 3 times before I managed to set it up. It crashed when I was switching windows to check the progress and when I had to select another disk.

I even once got a blue screen. It was saying about graphic card.

At first I thought it had to do with my OS, so I reinstalled XP, but the problems don't seem to go away. My PC was working perfectly for all the time, and now suddently this...

I need your help with this. Is this hardware problems? Most surely. But which hardware piece is causing it? Is it CPU, GPU or can the HDD be causing it?

--Vanilla PC is old 1 and a half years, and I upgraded roughly 9 months ago. I installed a new Graphic card, RAM and a new power supply. Everything was out-of-the-box.

I have an external disk, via USB, which is almost always connected. I also have a printer, but the drivers aren't installed at the moment.

I have checked everest and was suprised to see my temperatures are high. GPU was around 90°C and everything else was 60°. But I fixed that and my PC's got better air flow now. So this shouldn't be the problem.

As you see the crashes aren't random. But I wasn't able to completely work out what causes them. At first my aim was at the GC (Graphics card) but than when the freezes occured in windows, I had to widen my search. Could it possibly be HDD, which suddently stops responding causing everything to hang?

My PC is often turned on for longer periods without switching off. (through the night and day)

    My specs are:

    ---comming in a minute.

If you need anything else (everest diag or so) say, and I'll upload it. Please help me pinpoinut the problem maker, and fix it, before it's too late.:(

Re: Need an opinion. Is my PC breaking down?

This does sound a lot like a GPU faliure. This may be due to being overheated too often.

I agree with Collins,it sound like graphic related.
Do you have another card to try or can you borrow one before you shell out cash for a new one.
Regarding your GPU temp I have a Nvida GTX260 that runs under pressure 24/7 with a constant graphics production and my temp is normally 80c without any ill effects, they are tested at over 100c.

The only other option if you can not get your hands on another card is to take into the shop and ask them to test it.

Well, the temperature is stable aroung 67° for the past week. And I had my PC open during summer, to ensure there wouldn't be no overheating.

So overheating could have occured in a short term. IF it has occured at all, it was probably around 2-3 months of periodical overheating.

    Thoe I doubt it..
