Needs advice on Windows 8.1 Recovery Disc

I have recently installed Windows 8.1. (I previously had Windows 7). During this process, due to my ignorance, I lost all data on this external :mad.
This “Recovery Disc” basically blocks the use of this external HD.
My two questions:
1. I want to save this disc somewhere else, but the size is prohibitive- 31.9 GB, so I suppose copying it on a few DVD’s will not be possible. Other external hardware are the usual- memory sticks, SD cards; all much smaller. I also have a 2 TB external which I will not use for obvious reasons.
2. If someone does offer a solution, do I just delete the Recovery Disc and get rid of the partition? Or is there a way that I can use the more than 900 GB and keep the Recovery Disc on this external?

 

What you want to do is a bit unclear to me. Please clarify a bit more.
First you mention that due to ignorance you lost all data on external... meaning what?
Did you accidentally format an external hdd?

Then you mention a Recovery Disc that is 31.9 GB?
I am assuming here that you are indeed referring to a recovery partition, not a disc; since later on you are referring to backing it up? 31.9 GB can fit on a bdr-dl or larger disc.

And your obvious reason for not using your 2 TB is not obvious to me. Are you referring to your loss to external here?

I think you need to start from the beginning with as much detail as you can give, and do not assume we know what you are talking about. You are in front of the PC, you can see it, we don't know what you have done or not and how the PC is responding. And only you can know what resources you have to work with.
As I said, for back up of 31.9 GB, you can use bdr-dl, which can hold up to 46.6 GB (or bdr-tl which can hold about 118 GB) but I can't know if you have access to a bluray rewritable drive, or bdr-dl media.
