Nero 6 doesn't seem to be able to write DVD+-RW's.

I have had a look at their upgrade to Nero 7 but it doesn't mention if it can write +- DVD's either.

Is there away around this ... something I can download perhaps or ......????

I have a 'Lite on 8X' burner which seems to be missing an instruction book. It claims it can tackle DVD+_R/+-RW on the package!

I've used IMG Burn to copy DVD movies from hard drive to DVD without any problems. Also Used DVD Shink to edit movies so they would fit on to a single layer disk, but it would only work on the desktops, couldn't get it to function on the laptop. Also used DVD FabDecrypter to copy DVD to hard drive, all free @ majorgeeks.com. Instructions for use of each can be found on line via Google. I deep sixed the Nero softwre that came with the Sony External DVD drive I purchased.

Nero 6 and 7 are both capable of burning DVD+/-RW discs. Is your drive capable of burning the disc? Is your burner's firmware up to date?
For example, if your drive is rated for 4x burning speed for DVD-RW, it will not burn a 8x DVD-RW disc, unless the firmware is updated to handle the discs.

    Hi there Just Playin,

    You say that,
And I did stumble across a place with a lot of box's which one could check or un-check in Nero 6. However the DVD RW + - boxes were 'greyed over' so I was unable to change things there.

I have updated as best I could the firmware of my products. Nero is up to date. Liteon I have had trouble with updating as when I click on the firmware which I downloaded yesterday it gives me a message which tells me that 'SOHW-812S', (SOHW-812S is the model type of my Liteonit DVD burner) driver was not found.

When I check to see which drivers my comp is using the two which appear are Samsung and Sony. Should 'Nero' or 'Dell' or 'Liteonit' also be there do you know? And if they should .... how do I get them there?

Also, I am lost as to where I should look to see if those two drives (Samsung and Sony) are running 4x or 8x or or or .... and I am equally lost as to where I can make any changes?

Thank you and Bugballou very much for your responces, suggestions and answers. It is much appreciated.

Sounds like Nero Infotool. It tells you what your drive's capabilities are. You can't change any of that. If those boxes are grayed over, it is because the drive lacks that feature.

Your drive will burn 4x DVD=/-RW discs only. You can't change that. You can update the firmware so it will work with higher burn speed rated discs, although it will only burn at 4x speeds. If you used a disc rated higher than the drive was designed for without the corresponding firmware update, it could possibly damage the drive.

Did you exactly follow the directions on Liteon's site for updating the firmware?

    Just Playin,

I did follow the directions on Liteon's site for updating the firmware as best I could? Although point 5. confused me?

I'm still curious if Nero 7 will burn DVD RW +- X8. Do you know?

    Thanks again for you help.

If your drive is capable, yes.
