Nero fiddling with my CPU while laptop burns

I keep a close eye on my CPU,noticed some high numbers , Nero related-as I often edit photos, and watch/listen to the episodes of Boston Legal I have missed,:cool-want to keep the CPU as low as poss.

Tried to fix from here-another thread-

"On the NMIndexStoreSvr, and NMBgMonitor.exe part of Nero doesn't need to be running.
Disable Nero Scout via its own interface. To do so, double-click on the My Computer icon. Right-click on the Nero Scout icon and choose Options. Then uncheck the option for Enable Nero Scout."

    When I do this,(Options)got a message that panicked me,(Hence I forgot to save it,please be gentle,this is scary for me !:-o )
-Windows was not responding,I "ended now",and got my screensaver, minus anything else, then it all came back.

I disabled NmIndexingService, from "Services" via Admin Tools, earlier today,so that is gone from the task manager.

Looking at getting rid of the 2 mentioned above,18 thou between them. Now Nero Scout options is adding its 9 thou in...:banghead

Last night, updated Windows, all 33 updates,as part of my clean up from your awesome "READ me and Run" I would love to get rid of Nero, don't use it to burn disks, etc, but that is a last resort, and I've heard it can mess with your Windows updates,if you junk it.(Bookmarked advice from here on how to,just in case)

Thanks in anticipation, you guys have my trust and respect-always wanted to learn about my computer, but had no reliable source or guts to do it..

Never heard of issues with Nero, but did you wait? If other things are running, its not a good idea unless you have the processor and memory for it. So be sure all programs are closed while your burning. Im not sure if I read this right, but sounds like your running programs. Hopefully you cleaned up startup items, cleaned your drive and ran a disk defragmetor. Disk defragmentation can cause problems.

These are generic answers to start, let us know where your at.

Nah, Nero does nothing like that, at least I've never heard of it, which doesn't mean much;) . Whenever I used Nero on a single core CPU, it always made the whole rig almost unusable as it hogged all resources when recoding videos.

When I upgraded to a dual-core on the same board, that issue totally disappeared as Nero was happily crunching away in the background with no effect on my daily surfing etc. BTW, this was not a high end dual-core either, it's just that it was a dual, it was a truly 'night and day' difference, I was literally floored!

    It was that good!

BTW, if you're using Nero to watch videos and all, I'd suggest using something else.

    Thanks,swift amswers,BTW,

    augiedoggie-yes,I need an upgrade...(good advice,get a dual-core-thanks,
    I'm a real beginner)
-its next on the list behind the DSLR camera-sacrilege,I know, but I'm a photographer, who needs to use a computer, not the other way round.

    Major Attitude,its an honor...BEST forum,

    "but did you wait? "
    Um...? Lost me,here.
-Oh,do you mean by hitting end now ?
"If other things are running, its not a good idea unless you have the processor and memory for it."
    Sure I don't.Thanks.

'So be sure all programs are closed while your burning. Im not sure if I read this right, but sounds like your running programs."
I will try a test burn (never used) and see, with all other programs closed.May have to finish days' work, first.

"Hopefully you cleaned up startup items, cleaned your drive and ran a disk defragmetor. Disk defragmentation can cause problems."

    Absolutely,followed your instructions to a T.
    -Clean,flushed restore,updated Windows.Disabled some programs as recommended by Viper,"Safe" config. only,of course.
-Will get your MG defragger,ASAP-I need to do this weekly, tuns of photo files get edited, pics deleted, editors downloaded and changed all the time.

Nero is there to burn the odd disk, not used it yet (6months old)-came with laptop-no disk-and I don't need/use it to watch videos, etc.
Perhaps I will check into a "burn only" program,if such exists,(Recommendations ?)-hate "Suites"of stuff-usually means they put all the .:crap in there that would fit.
AND I resent Nero offering to sell me stuff when I start my computer...GRRR

Lets see what cooking on this subject,
    Aha
    1- Cyberlink Power DVD v.3 from Samsung.-to watch movies.Rare.

    2-Nero 7 Essentials..looks like I need to replace it.

3-Windows Media Player-used for stored music playing.Rarely use, online or MP3 player sees me nicely.

You don`t need PowerDVD to watch store bought movies or anything else, it`s just a tease to buy it and I don`t understand why anyone would either. Get rid of it.

Same goes for the crippled Nero. Get rid of it. I`ll just post some better and free apps, you`ll have to find the MG links as I`m tired ATM.

VLC media player, plays anything video or audio
    ImgBurn, burns ISO`s
    BurnAwareFree, burns most everything else.

There are others that folk like and I`ll leave it to them to post.:)

    I`m out for now.:zzz
