I have a few movies in .rar files and i extracted the files and inside were .avi files...SOOOO i converted the .avi files to dvd by using winavi video converter and it converted my files to DVD (all files say VOB file inside the DVD folder created by winavi)...anyways when i go to Nero and click on the Burn DVD-Video Files i put the .ifo .vob. bup files inside the folder, I put a sony dvd-r disc in and when i click burn it starts and then it says:

Burning Process started at 2.4x(3,324 KB/s)

    _NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG
    Illegal disc

    _NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG
Could not perform start of disc-at-once

Burn Process failed at 2.4x(3,324 KB/s)

This is what the disc says on it:
    -Sony DVD-R Ver 2.1/1x-16x

Does anyone have any clue why its doing this? Thanks in advanced for any help!

From the sound of it you rather astute at borrowing items from the net (rar'd avi's & all).. you may want to borrow a copy of Nero Vision - it will re-encode the avi's into a dvd itself.

Second thought is how big is the foloder with the vob data??

The firmware looks up to date. Is this a new pack of discs? Have you been able to write any type of files to this brand of DVDs? If you've never written to a disc from this pack before I would try making a simple data DVD to rule out the possibility that your NEC writer doesn't like that particular brand of disc. Also in Nero make sure in the bottom right hand corner disc size is set correctly to DVD5 not DVD9.

If you want to to make an ISO out of your Video files before burning you can use NeroExpress to write the DVD disc which should be fairly simple.

Your DVD_01_1 folder should contain a folder named VIDEO_TS with all your .VOB, .IFO etc. files inside. This is right. If your DVD_01_1 doesn't also contain an AUDIO_TS folder you should make a new empty AUDIO_TS folder.
Then download http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/folder2iso.cfm and just double-click the .exe (no need to install) and click Select Folder and browse to and highlight the whole DVD_01_1 folder. Then for Output enter a name like movie.ISO. Click generate ISO. Takes about 8 minutes.

When the ISO is done start Nero and just use the Burn DVD Image file option. It will accept the ISO as a valid image and burn the disc. This is really an extra step but Nero should set all necessary options(such as write at once etc.) when it sees the ISO image to be burnt. Probably worth a try just to be done with it.
