I am trying to join two film segments of a film that I have ripped off the dvd together in order to make one avi file. I am using nero vision, when I try to export the project and save it, nothing happens because I receive the error "statsfile not found". What does this mean and how to I deal with it?

This is why I don't use Nero for Video. There is a free program called Virtual Dub that will join your pieces together as long as they are the same format. Its a no install program so you unzip it where you want it and run its exe file to start, or send the exe to the desktop for easy access. Once started you simply set the Video tab to Direct Stream (copy, no encoding) and open the first avi. Then under the FILE menu select Append Avi Segment and open the second one. Then select Save As Avi and give it a name. Virtual Dub does not like vbr audio so you should use cbr when ripping your parts, I prefer cbr audio anyway since its so much more compatible with other programs and players.

I just looked up your error and it indicates you trying to run a second pass of a two pass encode without ever running the first pass (which would make the statsfile). You do realize that to join files you don't have to encode at all right? so there should be no passes at all.

Appzalien, it seems to me if he is ripping a DVD he will have two VOB(a form of mpeg) files. If he wants an avi finished product encoding would be necessary. Maybe I'm missing something?

I understand, but here he says "I am trying to join two film segments of a film that I have ripped off the dvd together". If he ripped them off the dvd then they're probably already in avi form, and now he's trying to join the two avi's together. I could be wrong but thats what happens when these guys ask for help but don't give you much info.
