Have the same problem on several XP Pro SP2 machines: SP1 for .NET 2.0 fails, either by Windows update or manual download and install. EventID 1023, Error Code 1603. Tried uninstalling .Net 2.0 and reinstalling from scratch, same happens. Ran clwireg.exe , didn't help. Also ran msicuu2.exe, didn't help. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Hi

Are these DELL PCs? if yes then hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and look for a process called SecureUpgrade ( its pre-loaded on some Dells and is a product from Wave Systems ) click it and end its process then try installing the SP1 .Net2.0 update.

Also is the same security software as in Antivirus the same on all these PCs? if so disable and try the update.

These PCs are all fully uptodate with all MSFT updates? just thinking the Windows Installer maybe out of date, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803
