    Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the forums, but having a major problem. I have a Dell Optiplex GX280 and I'm currently trying to install Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 in order to run a certain program. The Optiplex is Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. I have full internet access on the Optiplex desktop and I'm able to surf the web/play games. However, when i go to microsoft.com and try and download the .net framework 3.5, it says that the page cannot be displayed.

I know that the web page works, because I'm able to access it on my laptop on the same internet network. My laptop is Vista, though. Either way, the web page should be able to be accessed from anywhere.

Since i cant access the webpage to download the 3.5 framework, I downloaded it on my laptop, transferred over to the optiplex with a flash drive, and tried to instal. I think this next problem has something greatly to do with not being able to view the page..

When i run the dotNetFx35setup.exe, the downloader comes up and starts, only to then say: "Re-establishing connection with the server (Attempt X of 5)" And it goes until its 5/5 attemps, then errors.

Anyone have any idea why this might be doing this? I really need to be on .net Framework 3.5. If it helps, i'm currently on service pack 3 and running .net framework 3.0 at the moment.

    Please, and Thanks!!

    Hi

What you could try is some basic cleaning of temps and cookies just in case a corrupted file is blocking you (more sinister is malware, but cross that bridge if needed later), so download and run CCleaner and its cleaner tool (leave settings at default) and try again.

If not then download this version of .Net 3.5 SP1 (latest but also the full package which is 231mb in size) if that installs OK and you get the fuctionality you need from .Net then we can tackle why you cannot connect to microsoft and is it only microsoft you cannot connect too?
