I share the internet with my landlord as part of my rental package. I have a wireless router, he has the cable modem-connection in his part of the house. I need to get my wireless router to pick up his signal so I can use the internet in my section of the house (a triplex) on my desktop.
I can pick it up with a usb wireless stick with no problem, but not the wireless router. It seems that the router is looking for a modem.

I want to use my voip, that is why I need to use the router. Netgear wgt624 wireless router, vista and xp 32 bit.

I would also like to find out how to get a laptop to connect with this router, even though they have built in network cards, I thought I might be able to connect via the laptop to my linksys to phone please help.

Ummm ... simple question ... just the basics ...

Is YOUR router PHYSICALLY connected to the modem via a cat 5/6 cable??

Cause that is how the modem "talks" to the router!

It then becomes a wireless station sending out the wireless signal that your devices can then pick up. Kind of like a radio tunes into a radio station.
